WHEN the goggles are on you step inside a whole new world of 360-degree gaming — and technology transports you to another place. A fully immersive video gaming experience unlike anything seen before in Townsville has arrived. Virtual reality gaming is now available at Townsville Technicians in a new venture called Virtual Reality Townsville. The new service is the brainchild of Robert Sampson who started the gaming cafe which features two Oculus Rift sets, driving simulators, HTC Vive and 30,000 retro games. Mr Sampson installed custom computers with high-end graphics to facilitate the new technology. He has been building the set-up for about two years, sourcing much of the technology from the US. “A friend of mine told me about Oculus, brought it over to my shop and said ‘Rob you have to check this out’. I realised it was going to be huge,” he said. “I don’t think many people in Townsville will be able to afford to buy a computer and get the whole set-up,” he said. “There is not much for kids to do in Townsville and it’s the same for older people and I wanted to change that. There is nothing like this in Townsville — not even in North Queensland.”
