Bob Dylan Wins The 2016 Nobel Prize In Literature

   

It's been a long time coming, and the winds have finally answered. Bob Dylan has won the Nobel Prize for Literature “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”

While the Nobel Prize in literature is usually announced within the same week as the Science awards, this year it took some time to announce. And after days of waiting, it was Bob Dylan with his extensive catalog of original songwriting, which might just well be recited as poems.

Dylan also happens to be the first songwriter to win the coveted Nobel prize for Literature, and even in the literary circle, Dylan enjoyed great betting odds to win the prize sometime within his lifetime, so much that it became a longstanding joke.

Considered the voice of a generation, Bob Dylan has been a great sampler of American culture since the 1960s. From his early railroad days to his electrifying Newport Folk Festival performance, to his writings after his ill-fated motorcycle accident, Dylan was seen it all, and written it all, and sung it all unabashedly.

His songs 'Mr Tambourine Man', 'Visions of Johanna', 'Desolation Row', 'A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall' and 'Like a Rolling Stone' have all been considered jewels in songwriting. From his early years of protest songs to his later shift to gospel music, Bob Dylan has been at it for 50 years. Now at 75, Dylan has been finally recognized as a profound influence on contemporary songwriting.

With the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature, Dyland is the 259th American to win the Nobel Prize.
