Verizon has rolled out a software update for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edgeto activate FM radio functionality. The move gives users the ability to tune into their favorite local radio stations, but they’ll need to download an app first.
The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have always had FM radios built-in, but until now, those onVerizon were unable to take advantage of them. That meant that to listen to local radio shows, users had to use internet radio apps like TuneIn instead.
But not anymore. Following today’s update, users can tune directly into FM radio stations using the free NextRadio app. They will need to install the latest software update first, then obtain NextRadio from Google Play.
The update, which is labeled MMB29M.G930VVRU2APG5 on the Galaxy S7and MMB29M.G935VVRU2APG5 on the S7 edge, also improves HD Voice to reduce the number of dropped calls, and makes further fixes to prevent random reboots.
Users will find that Samsung’s Barcode Beaming Service is also supported now, too. This allows you to scan barcodes on coupons, loyalty cards, tickets, and more using yourGalaxy S7, then store them digitally on your device for later use.
