The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a warning that certain models of Samsung top-loading washing machines have “safety issues.”
This warning was issued following reports that some of the machines had exploded. Yes, you read that right, they exploded.
CNN Money reports that the models in question were manufactured between March 2011 and April 2016, but state that the CPSC did not specify the models.
Customers in Texas, Georgia and Indiana have reported their exploding washing machines and many of them have now filed a federal class-action lawsuit against the company.
The lawsuit mentions the exploding washing machines, but also alleges that Samsung “has moved aggressively to collect and destroy all evidence of the defective machines” after they exploded.
Samsung has issued a statement on the matter, stating that “In rare cases, affected units may experience abnormal vibrations that could pose a risk of personal injury or property damage when washing bedding, bulky or water-resistant items.”
You can check if your washing machine is among those affected by heading here.
So far, there have been at least 21 reports of Samsung washing machines blowing up.
A Texas woman is quoted as saying that, “the machine exploded with such ferocity that it penetrated the interior wall of the garage.”
Samsung is already in serious trouble over the worldwide recall of their flagship Galaxy Note 7 devices. Recent reports of “safe” Note 7s exploding in China are only adding to their woes.
Poor Samsung, they just can’t seem to catch a break.
