Apple is expected to release iOS 10 in the very near future, bringing a ton of new features to the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. One of the most exciting upgrades is the decision to open up Siri to third-party apps, and now the company’s giving us a fresh look at how that feature will work.
In a recent blog post, Apple highlighted how you can send messages and money using third-party apps in iOS 10. All you have to do is say “Hey Siri” and follow it up with a detailed voice command. Siri will generate an info card detailing the action and ask for final confirmation before finishing the task.
Apple highlighted two services, Square Cash and Monzo, for sending money. You can pay a friend by simply saying something like “Hey Siri send Jacob Kleinman $20 using Cash.” Monzo also offers Touch ID support for quick and secure confirmation.
On the messaging front, the post shows how to send a text using WhatsApp or LinkedIn. The process looks extremely simple and makes it possible to shoot off a quick message with nothing but your voice.
Once iOS 10 arrives, Siri will also be able to call you a car with Uber and use other messaging apps like WeChat and Slack. Apple is also switching its AI assistant to deep learning technology so it can provide even better recommendations and information moving forward.
