All the way back in January at CES 2016, Samsung promised to bring the Gear S2 to iPhone owners’ wrists this year. Now the company is finally within reach of delivering on that promise.
Samsung announced this week that it’s launching an official beta program to test iPhone support for the Gear S2. The tests also include the Gear Fit 2, which launched in April. The beta runs through September 19, suggesting an official release could come soon after that.
You can signup to try using your Gear S2 or Gear Fit 2 with an iPhone via the source link below. You’ll need the iPhone 5 or a newer model, and it should be running at least iOS 8.4. Of course, you’ll also need one of Samsung’s current wearable devices to qualify.
Samsung says it’s still working out the kinks and improving its software, but it’s probably pretty close to an official release at this point. If this beta goes well we might even see the Gear S2 and Gear Fit 2 add iOS support in time for the iPhone 7 release, which is expected to arrive in either mid or late September. Either way, it looks like the South Korean company will make good on its promise, even if it takes almost a full year to do it.
