Microsoft has rolled out a new firmware update for the Surface Pro 3 to fix a battery issue that has been plaguing a large number of users. The problem meant some tablets lasted as little as one hour when not connected to a mains outlet.
Microsoft promised to issue a fix for this problem, which has been frustrating Surface Pro 3 owners for some time, just over a week ago — and now it’s here. However, the company warns that you might not see the benefits instantly.
“Once this fix is applied to a Surface Pro 3, the reported full charge capacity will self-correct over the next several charge and discharge cycles,” Microsoft explains, so it may take a week or more to really notice the impact this update has.
“Surface Pro 3 devices that previously experienced the problem can now operate on battery power, and the issue won’t occur on devices that haven’t experienced the issue.”
You should remember that your Surface Pro 3’s battery will naturally deteriorate over time, so if you’ve had yours for a couple of years, it’s not going to last as long as it once did in between charges. However, you should be getting a lot more than an hour.
To receive this update, ensure your Surface Pro 3 is plugged into the mains outlet and that you have more than 40 percent battery life. You can then head into the Windows Update section within Settings and then Update & Security.
