The LG G5 was one of the most highly anticipated smartphones for 2016, but its modular design approach turned out to be a complete failure. The smartphone, along with its modular ‘Friends’ didn’t sell all that well, in fact we heard that sales were so bad, a bunch of LG employees in South Korea were fired. The company is expected to announce the G5’s successor early next year and if a report is to be believed, LG will no longer utilise a modular design. While it was all speculation, an alleged render of the smartphone has emerged. Honestly it doesn’t look exciting and seems to borrow design cues from the G5. The render of the smartphone comes from Shai Mizrachi, who is known to accurately leak flagships from Samsung and LG in the past. We can’t really say how well the build quality will be or what materials LG will use, but we do know that it will be a little slimmer than the G5. The render also indicates that the back will look a bit like the V20 and the new handset will feature a similar dual-camera setup and a fingerprint scanner. The flagship could also borrow features from the V20, including high-fidelity audio input and output. No unofficial features have been revealed but we are expecting a 5.2-5.5 inch display size, a high-end Snapdragon 821 or 835 chipset, 4GB or even 6GB of RAM options and 64GB of expandable storage. Let’s just hope that more LG employees aren’t fired over this design now.
