Apple’s website goes on to say, consumers experiencing this issue can get batteries replaced and adds, “we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused customers.”
The problem was first reported by users in China, and affects phones manufactured between September and October 2015. The replacement exercise is a global one and is valid for three years since the sale of the first unit.
Apple had set up page where users could find out more details about the program, and it also has a tool to check if your phone qualifies. Users need to punch in their serial number in the Apple Support page and check if their device’s battery can be replaced. The serial number can be found in the About section in the Settings app.
Apple will examine the device to make sure it is eligible and in working order, even if the serial number matches. Any broken display will have to be fixed first, and it will cost extra, as Apple can’t replace batteries with a cracked screen. Users need to delete all the data on their iPhone and switch off Find My iPhone before handing it in for repair.
