Android 7.0 Nougat update is rolling out to Moto Z phones in India after Motorola announced the same for its US users earlier.
With the Android Nougat update, the Moto Z becomes the first non-Google phone to officially support Daydream, Google's platform for high-quality mobile VR. The Moto Z Force, which has not released in India yet are also receiving the update.
"These are the first smartphones from another manufacturer to be recognized by Google as Daydream-ready devices - a distinction given to phones that have been certified for the Daydream platform and are built for VR with high-resolution displays, ultra-smooth graphics and high-fidelity sensors for precise head tracking," Motorola stated in a blog post.
Users will receive the update in the form of an OTA update. To check, head to Settings, About Phone, System updates.
The Moto Z update comes after Motorola came out with a list of 15 phones that would be receiving the update within some time. The Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus were the first of the lot to get the update with the Moto Z coming next. There is no word yet as to when the Moto Z Play will get the update.
Android Nougat brings a lot of new nifty features to Android including multi-window support, direct replies from the notifications panel, a revamped lock screen, a Data Saver mode, new emojis and all new optimizations for battery.
The Moto Z is Motorola's modular phone of the year. The size-zero phone can be integrated with third-party accessories called Moto Mods like a projector, a camera or a loudspeaker, to enhance its functionalities. It was launched in June this year at Lenovo's Tech World Conference and became one of the first major smartphone to do away with the 3.5mm headphone jack- even before the iPhone 7. Courtesy its modular nature, the Moto Z may also support Google's Project Tango- the AR-enabled dual camera tech that allows you to interact with your immediate surroundings using augmented reality.
After the Moto Z, Moto G Play (4th Gen), Moto X Play, Moto X Force, Moto X Style and the Moto Z Play will receive the Android Nougat update.
