The Google's Project Tango AR phone is finally coming out this November

   

If you thought Google would stop at bringing out the Pixel phones with support for Daydream VR and the AI-based Google Assistant this year, you are in for a surprise. Clay Bavor, Google's head of VR and AR told CNET, Google's Project Tango phone, the Lenovo Phab2 Pro will hit the stores this November.

The Lenovo Phab2 Pro is a mammoth phone with a 6.4-inch screen and Google's Project Tango - depth sensing 3D cameras. The cameras allow the phone to beam augmented reality imagery which you can play around it.

Insert a dinosaur in the room and play hide-and-seek with it. Navigate indoors. See how furniture fits in your home. And more. With the Phab2 Pro, Google aims to take Pokemon Go's ambition forward, and turn augmented reality into an approachable, mainstream tech.

The phone will finally release in November after hitting a lot of obstacles. It was supposed to come out in the summer, but then got delayed to a fall release. Now, it is going to come out the same time the Pixel phones will go on sale. The Phab2 Pro will be priced $499 in the US, and if it gets an India release, the price comes to Rs 33,000 roughly.

But users looking to make the most of Google's futuristic tech will have to choose between the Phab2 Pro and the Pixel phones. The Pixel phones feature AMOLED displays which makes it compatible with Google's Daydream VR platform. On the other hand, the Phab2 Pro doesn't have an AMOLED screen and thus, no support for the Daydream View VR support. Likewise, the Pixel phones don't have the Google Tango cameras.

It comes down to choosing between virtual reality and augmented reality.

However, Bavor said in his interview with CNET, "You can imagine in the future you won't have to make a choice, but that's a bit further out." Does this hint at a future phones with support for both Tango and Daydream? Only time will tell.
