Sony has announced its latest flagship in India, the Xperia XZ. An update to the Xperia X, the new XZ comes at a price of Rs 51,990 and best buy price of Rs 49,990. The smartphone was first showcased at IFA 2016 and will be available in the country via Amazon.in from 10 October. The specs of the Xperia XZ include a 5.2-inch IPS display with a 1080p resolution, a Snapdragon 820 chip with 3GB RAM, stereo speakers, 64GB storage, USB Type-C, a fingerprint scanner and yes it is waterproof. The battery is rated at 2,900mAH with quick-charge 3.0 support and Qnovo adaptive charging which is Sony’s intelligent battery charging. The primary camera is a similar 23MP unit with f/2.0 lens that was seen on last year’s Xperia X lineup, but the sensor is a newly developed IMX300, which includes a new autofocus system. The camera uses colour detection, phase detection, and laser-assist to focus faster, more accurately and intelligently track moving objects. Sony calls this Triple Image Sensing. While there is no optical image stabilisation, Sony has focused on its SteadyShot Intelligent Active Mode which now uses 5-axis gyroscope measurements (angle, roll, and shift shakes) to stabilise pictures and videos. The company has also added manual shutter speed control, 4K video and 2x lossless zoom. The front camera include a 13MP sensor for taking selfies. Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. The handset will be available in Forest Blue, Mineral Black and Platinum colour options. It will be bundled with some offers including a quick charger (UCH12) bundled in the box, free 3 months subscription worth Rs 349 of Sony LIV and Modern Combat 5 Gameloft credits worth Rs 780. Buyers who pre-book the smartphone between 1-10 October get the Sony SmartBand Talk – SWR30 worth Rs 8,990 for free.
