Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat update has been good news for most people, particularly those on Nexus devices. However, it seems that a small group of Nexus 5X users have been affected by some bug in the update process that bricks their phone. A number of users on various forums have reported that their Nexus 5X is getting stuck in a reboot loop when they try to upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat. Google has acknowledged the issue, but offers a solution that affected users aren’t happy with, reports 9to5Google. Google claims that the issue is hardware related and that while they continue to investigate the situation, they suggest that affected users consider their warranty and repair options as a software update will not fix the issue. A Google engineer gave the following statement, “We understand that a very small number of users are experiencing a bootloop issue on the Nexus 5X. We are continuing to investigate the situation, but can confirm that this is strictly a hardware related issue. For those of you that are currently experiencing this, please contact your place of purchase for warranty or repair options. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your continued patience.” It’s not clear whether an existing hardware issue caused a problem with the update or vice versa, and it would be very strange if it was the latter. Considering that the Nexus 5X was only launched in September 2015, chances are high that your device is still under warranty.
