BlackBerry is reportedly working on three new smartphones all of which will run Android following the launch of the company’s first Android smartphone, the BlackBerry Priv (pictured above). VentureBeat recently revealed details on the new phones, including their names.
The devices are reportedly dubbed the BlackBerry Neon, BlackBerry Argon and BlackBerry Mercury, all cool names that I’d actually like to see used on official release. The Neon is the alleged entry-level device with a Snapdragon 617 processor, a 5.2-inch 1080p touchscreen display, 16GB of storage, 3GB of RAM, a 13MP camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. The BlackBerry Neon is likely the same as the BlackBerry Hamburgwe saw leaked yesterday (above). Not terrible specs, but not exactly great, either.
Another relatively low-to-mid-range smartphone is the BlackBerry Mercury (below) reportedly with a full static QWERTY keyboard (it doesn’t slide, VentureBeatsaid), a 4.5-inch 1080p display and a Snapdragon 625 growling within.
The BlackBerry Argon is supposed to turn up the heat a bit with a 5.5-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 820 processor, 32GB of storage and 4GB of RAM. That’s basically a flagship right there, and it’s probably the smartphone that will be targeted at BlackBerry Priv owners who are looking for an upgrade. A 21MP camera and 8MP front-facing camera are reportedly on board.
VentureBeat said we can expect the BlackBerry Neon as soon as this month or next, the BlackBerry Argon “sometime in October” and the BlackBerry Mercury during the first quarter of next year.
