Fortnite dominates the conversation in gaming, but another title from the battle royale genre appears to be just as popular. That would be PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
PUBG Corporation, which publisher-developer Bluehole owns, told The Verge about its unspoken success. More than 200 million players on mobile devices dropped into the game at least once. Remember, that’s only on iOS and Android.
As for its daily active users, around 30 million players are on PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds every day.
Both figures match what Epic Games experiences with Fortnite, but PlayerUnknokwn’s Battlegrounds hardly gets equal recognition. In fact, the game could be much more popular than Fortnite when you consider China-based players and the over 50 million copies sold on non-mobile platforms. It has become one of the all-time best-selling video games.
The game was rolled out in beta last year. It saw a full release on Windows by the end of 2017, and then completed mobile and console versions arrived in 2018.
Between them, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite don’t share many qualities. The two games are filled with chaos, but Epic Games tosses personality and humor into Fortnite. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, however, leverages the seriousness of actual warfare.
If you’re into Fortnite, it’s still worth checking out PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The same goes for players on the other side. You might discover some enjoyment in trying out a different experience.
