virtual reality HTC opened VR arcade in China and Taiwan. Taiwan-based mobile electronics company HTC is all set to bring back the arcade gaming experience to America with the help of virtual reality. The company is looking forward to launching its Viveport Arcades in the US where people can advanced gaming experience using Virtual Reality. Tech Crunch reported that HTC is aiming to hit the market by providing virtual reality gaming experience in a pay-per-use manner. The company is targeting movie theaters primarily as the main spot where people spend a premium amount for a quality entertainment experience. But, before moving on to the US market, HTC has plenty of work to do in Chinese and Taiwanese markets where it launched its Viveport Arcades initially. The major challenge is to set up small and large arcades from where people can purchase a commercial license for games. The Viveports in China and Taiwan are based at malls, theaters, internet cafes, and arcades. “Viveport Arcade will represent a more than $100 million market opportunity for VR developers in the next two years,” Rikard Steiber, President of Viveport and SVP of Virtual Reality at HTC was quoted as saying by HTC. “From the largest amusement centers to arcade installations at family entertainment locations, virtual reality is clearly becoming the next big draw for entertainment. We believe this will be a cornerstone in democratizing access to high-end virtual reality and turning curious consumers into longtime fans,” Steiber added. Last week, HTC launched its huge Viveland virtual reality arcade in Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan. The 330 square meter arcade has 20 different VR gaming experiences. Recently, HTC had announced the addition of two popular titles The Brookhaven Experiment and Everest VR to its VR arcade. The Brookhaven is a zombie survivor game and Everest VR gives the experience of climbing Mount Everest. HTC has partnered with Syntrend, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and SteelSeries to launch the Taipei Viveland. Earlier, it had made a strategic partnership with Dassault Systèmes to drive virtual reality (VR) into the enterprise space.
