Apple’s MacBook event is going to be held on 27 October, but looks like some of the design details may already have leaked. MacRumors has spotted leaked images in the latest macOS Sierra 10.12.1 update which shows what looks like the new MacBook Pro with a touch panel above the keyboard. According to the images, an OLED touch panel is seen above the keyboard. It has long been speculated that the new MacBook Pros are expected to sport an OLED touch panel, where the function keys generally are. The touch panel which is rumoured to be called the Magic Toolbar, looks contextual as it changes what appears on the display based on what is being done on the Pros screen. In the leaked image, you can see an Apple customer being asked to confirm a purchase with a finger on the touch sensor or panel on the right hand side. MacRumors says that it seems like the Touch ID is built into an invisible power button. The MacBook doesn’t look drastically different from the current generation, except that you see some speaker grill sections beside the keyboard. The new machine is expected to be thinner and lighter than the existing models. The bezels around the display certainly look thinner. Also the keys seem to be a tab bit flatter, almost like the ones seen on the MacBook. Diving into the details, the new MacBooks will be skipping on the standard USB ports and will go in for four USB Type C ports instead, along with support for the Thunderbolt 3 standard. The USB C ports will be used for charging, so it is indeed time to wave goodbye to the MagSafe connector. While the MacBook Pros are expected to arrive in 13-inch and 15-inch models, the same source also points out that Apple will kill the 11-inch MacBook Air. The reasons for the same seem to be related to the existence of the iPad Pro series. The 13-inch MacBook Air model is expected to see a complete redesign. Last we heard, the MacBook Pro lineup was expected to feature Touch ID and an OLED touch panel that sits over the keyboard. The options displayed would change according to application in use. In addition to the usual improvements, some reports indicate that Apple may be dropping Intel chipsets in favour for AMD chips.
